Electron correlation and localization: electrons, holes and excitons
Viktor Bezugly
Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids, Dresden

Jan. 28, 2010, 1 p.m.

An overview of my scientific work will be presented. First the so-called indirect excitons in semiconductor heterostructures will be discussed. Then a method to calculate the band structures of semiconductors which accurately accounts for electron correlation and its extension to excitonic bands will be presented. In the last part the chemical bonding analysis in position space using the electron localizability indicator (ELI) will be shown and the importance of the account of electron correlation will be discussed.
